Dan is a closeted dad in the middle of a trial separation he doesn’t want. His wife, Teresa has been shutting him out and his daughter, Charlie, and son, Geo, are all he’s got. At Charlie’s request, the family takes a trip together to a 5-star AirBnb. There, Dan sees the apparition of their host’s late mother and in a drawer, finds her glasses. Though the host, Reeny Baković, treats them like family, her anti gay views are upsetting and Dan is concerned her mother’s watchful presence knows his secret.
Upon leaving, he gives the place a bad review — but he’s left his insulin back in the fridge. When he returns, Reeny confronts him. Dan refuses to take the review down and during the ride back, his blood sugars climb to dangerous heights, nearly killing him. It turns out the refrigerator his insulin was in froze and destroyed it. Dan wonders if the spirit had something to do with it. Teresa refuses to believe it but as freak accidents continue to haunt them and the spirit’s glasses come home in Dan’s luggage, it’s clear something has attached.
Dan’s friend, Elara, thinks the entity is feeding off the family’s dysfunction. The only way to get rid of it is to starve it. Though the family attempts to rally, it’s having no effect. Dan loses his job, Teresa’s apartment burns down and no matter how hard Dan tries to get rid of those glasses, the keep returning to his doorstep. It comes down to Dan’s secret. When it’s revealed, it brings him to his knees. In Dan's vulnerability, the spirit takes control of him and gets him to bring a gun in his mouth.
Teresa and the kids stop him and when he awakens, to his shock, they accept his bisexuality. This turns the tide and together, the family rallies around the BBQ to burn the glasses. However, it’s Dan’s redemption and the family’s imperfect love for each other that ultimately drives the Late Baković away.
