Dan is in the middle of a trial separation he doesn’t want. His wife, Teresa has been shutting him out and his daughter, Charlie, and son, Geo, are all he’s got. At Charlie’s request, the family takes a trip together to a 5-star AirBnb with Dan looking forward to the chance of winning back his family.
There, Dan sees the apparition of their host’s late mother and in a drawer, finds her glasses. Things get awkward when their interfering host, Reeny Baković, begins to intrude on their family time, sharing homophobic opinions that set Dan on edge. Then things turn from uncomfortable to downright sinister when Dan gets a growing fear that her mother’s dark and watchful presence knows his secret.
Upon leaving, Dan gives the rental a poor review but remembers he’s left his insulin back in the fridge. Knowing from experience the danger of a blood sugar spike, he races back. When he returns, Reeny confronts him. Dan refuses to take the review down and during the ride back, his blood sugars climb to dangerous heights, nearly killing him. It turns out the refrigerator his insulin was in froze and destroyed it. Dan wonders if the spirit had something to do with it but Teresa refuses to believe it. As freak accidents continue to haunt them and the spirit’s glasses come home in Dan’s luggage, it’s clear something has attached.
Dan’s New Age friend, Elara, thinks the entity is feeding off the family’s dysfunction. The only way to get rid of it is to starve it. To do this, they’ll have to heal their broken relationships and reconnect. Though the family attempts to rally, it’s having no effect. Dan loses his job, Teresa’s apartment burns down and no matter how hard Dan tries to get rid of those glasses, they keep returning to his doorstep.
When the spirit attempts to reveal his sexuality to everyone, it brings him to his knees. Vulnerable, Dan is taken over and puts a gun in his mouth. Teresa and the kids stop him. When he awakens, to his shock, they accept his bisexuality. This turns the tide and together, the family burns the glasses. But it’s Dan’s redemption and the family’s imperfect love for each other that ultimately drives the Late Baković away.
